What can you say about the month of May! Winter is over and spring is well under way. Time to bring out the gardening tools and lawn furniture and start planning that summer vacation! And don’t forget to roll out the barbeque too! After all, May is National Barbecue Month and National Hamburger Month too! Ok, it’s also National Salad Month so try to squeeze one or two salads in too. Not to forget it’s also National Salsa month (OLE!) and National Strawberry Month. Something for everyone. And that’s not all!
May 1 is National Chocolate Parfait Day. Layers of chocolate pudding, crushed cookies and whipped cream. Fancy! But so simple to make not to mention that you can make it both low fat and sugar if need be so feel free to enjoy.
Never let it be said that May didn’t have something for everybody because May 4th is National Homebrew Day. What an adventure to make your own beer. Fun for the whole family! If you start now by next year you’ll have your own brew to celebrate....
Cinco de Mayo! Another
excuse celebration involving a lot of whooping and dancing and cerveza! And La Musica de Mariachi!! Don’t forget to snack on some tortilla chips and salsa too as it is National Salsa Month!
If all the beer and, it being National Barbeque Month, has you feeling a bit over-indulged and a tad guilty, relax. May 6th is International No Diet Day. Yes, international! Everywhere everybody is gorging themselves on whatever strikes their fancy and not giving it another thought. Stuff your face with wild abandon. Ok. Maybe not. Oh, what the heck. Go ahead and live a little. But just for today! Hey, wait a second. May 11th is Eat What You Want Day. This could be big trouble. Then again, is it your fault that…
May 5 is National Hoagie Day!? Or That May 8th is National Coconut Cream Pie Day!? Or followed by National Butterscotch Brownie Day on the 9th!? Heaven help us. And we’ve still got 20 days more to go!
Back to sanity. While there are plenty more days of sweets in May, let’s focus in on a more healthy variety of fare. Perhaps you’ll enjoy National Shrimp Day on the 10th. Of course you can eat these tempting treats from the sea boiled in spiced up water or roasted with a bit of olive oil and sea salt. Don’t even think about Shrimp Scampi. No, we won’t even talk about it.
And we won’t talk about National Apple Pie day on the 13th. Nor do we want to talk about National Cherry Cobbler Day that falls on the 17th. Nope. Not gonna mention that one. No way. Just like I’m not going to tell you that the 19th is National Devil’s Food Cake Day. Wild horses couldn’t drag it out of me. And for goodness sake forget you even know that May 19th is WORLD Baking Day. EVERYBODY is gonna be baking breads and cookies and pies and cakes. All over the world! Imagine. All those wonderful baked goods collectively filling the atmosphere with the wonderful aromas of all those goodies. Sigh.
You ask….is there more?! Oh, yeah. Plenty more. National Strawberries and Cream Day on the 21st. Or how about National Wine Day on the 25th! (Frankly I thought it was Wine Day everyday!) If you still have room left, you might consider National Blueberry Cheesecake Day on the 26th.
May 28th is both National Brisket Day and National Hamburger Day . So fire up the barbeque or your smoker and enjoy either…or both! But save room because the 29th is National Coq Au Vin Day! I’m sure those who took part in the Supper Club event remember how wonderful Coq Au Vin is!
Wow! Two entire days without sugar!
So I won’t tell you that May 31st is National Macaroon Day.
The big question is….What’s Cooking at your house this month!?
